Truck Broke Down With a Load of Juice. We Cross-Docked It Overnight.
Some calls come in at the worst possible time. This one came after hours: a truck hauling a load of juice had broken down near Richmond, and the freight could not sit and wait. Juice has a shelf life, the receiver had a delivery window, and every hour on the side of the road put the load at risk.
The driver and dispatcher needed two things fast: a dock that could take the freight right now, and a way to get it moving again. That is exactly what Virginia Crossdock 247 is built for.
What we did
- Opened the dock after hours. Our team met the freight at 2208 Station Rd in N Chesterfield, minutes off I-95 and I-295.
- Unloaded and checked every pallet. We counted the load, photographed its condition on arrival and flagged anything that needed attention.
- Transferred it overnight. The juice went straight from the broken-down equipment onto a replacement truck, so it never sat around waiting.
- Sent it back on the road. The load rolled out to finish its trip instead of becoming a claim.
Why speed matters with beverage freight
Beverage loads like juice are heavy, time-sensitive and easy to damage if they are handled roughly or left sitting. A breakdown does not just delay a delivery. It can turn a good load into a rejected one. A fast, careful cross-dock transfer keeps the product moving, keeps the receiver happy and keeps the carrier out of a claim.
