Cross-docking in Virginia
What is cross docking?
Cross docking means unloading freight from an inbound truck and reloading it onto outbound trucks with little or no storage in between. At our Richmond cross dock, freight is received, counted, inspected, photographed, sorted or reworked as needed, then sent out on your carrier or our trucks, usually within a day.
What is the difference between cross docking and transloading?
The terms overlap. Cross docking usually means truck-to-truck transfer, often with sorting by destination. Transloading usually means moving freight between modes or equipment types, such as from an ocean container to a dry van, or from floor-loaded freight onto pallets. We do both at our Richmond dock.
How much does cross docking cost per pallet in Richmond?
Cross-dock transfers start from $20 per pallet with a $200 weekday minimum. After-hours and weekend work adds a $250 fee on top. Floor-loaded freight, rework and storage are quoted separately.
How long can freight sit at your cross dock?
Next-day turnaround is standard, but freight can stay longer. Short-term and longer-term pallet storage is available at our Richmond warehouse. Ask for a storage rate if you expect freight to stay more than a few days.
Do you handle floor-loaded trailers and containers?
Yes. We unload floor-loaded (loose) trailers and containers by hand, then palletize, stretch-wrap and label the freight for outbound shipping. Pricing depends on piece count, weight and how the freight was loaded.
Can you reload a container into LTL shipments?
Yes. Container-to-LTL reloads are common for us. We devan the container, build pallets by destination or PO, label them and stage them for LTL carriers or our own trucks. This is a popular Port of Virginia transload service.
Do you accept hazmat freight?
No. We do not handle hazardous materials of any class.
What is your turnaround time?
Next-day turnaround is standard. Same-day transfers are available when the outbound truck is ready and the freight is in good condition.
What happens when a driver no-shows or a receiver rejects freight?
Call or text (804) 600-4352. We can take the trailer, hold the freight, rework any problems and set up redelivery on a new appointment with your carrier or our trucks. This is one of the most common reasons brokers call us.
Can you rework damaged or shifted pallets?
Yes. Text photos of the load and we will quote the rework. We restack, rewrap, replace broken pallets, separate damaged goods and document everything with photos.
Do you offer overflow storage?
Yes. Pallet storage is available for overflow inventory, seasonal freight, projects waiting on a site, or freight held for an appointment.
Do you provide trucks?
Yes. We run box trucks with liftgates for local and regional delivery and can arrange larger equipment. You can also use your own carrier for pickup and delivery.
Are you open weekends and after hours?
Weekday dock hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We work 24/7 by appointment, including nights, weekends and holidays. After-hours and weekend work adds a $250 fee to the job.
Last mile delivery in Virginia
What counts as last mile delivery?
Last mile (or final mile) delivery is the final leg from a cross dock, warehouse or terminal to the end receiver, whether that is a store, office, hospital, job site or home. It is often the most complex part of a shipment because of appointments, access and handling at the destination.
What is the difference between threshold, room of choice and white glove delivery?
Threshold delivery brings the freight just inside the first door. Room of choice means carrying it to the room the customer picks. White glove adds unpacking, assembly or setup, placement and removal of packaging and debris.
Do you offer liftgate delivery?
Yes. Our box trucks have liftgates for receivers without a loading dock, including small businesses, restaurants, schools and homes.
Do you offer inside delivery?
Yes. Our crews bring freight inside, up stairs or elevators and to the room needed. Tell us about stairs, elevators and tight spaces when you book.
Do you deliver to retail stores and hospitals?
Yes. We work with mall and shopping-center receiving rules, store appointments, hospital docks and medical receiving procedures, including certificates of insurance when required.
Do you deliver to homes?
Yes. Residential delivery includes a scheduling call, an appointment window and liftgate or two-person service, with threshold, room-of-choice and white glove options.
Can you deliver within an appointment window?
Yes. We call receivers ahead of time to set appointments and confirm access, and we keep you updated if anything changes.
Do I get proof of delivery and photos?
Yes. Every delivery includes a signed POD and photos of the freight at the delivery location, usually sent the same day.
How are damage claims handled?
We photograph freight when we receive it and when we deliver it, so any damage is documented. We carry $1M in insurance. If there is a problem, contact us right away with photos and the POD.
How far from Richmond do you deliver?
We deliver across Virginia, including Greater Richmond, Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Roanoke and the Shenandoah Valley, as well as Washington DC and Baltimore.
Do you offer same-day delivery?
Yes. Same-day delivery is available around Richmond and for urgent regional runs when freight is ready early. Next-day is standard.
Delivery helpers, lumpers & labor
Can I hire helpers just to unload my trailer?
Yes. We provide labor-only crews to unload or load trailers and containers at your site or ours, with no truck required.
Do you offer lumper service in Richmond?
Yes. Our lumpers unload and palletize freight for carriers and receivers in the Richmond area, including floor-loaded trailers and containers.
What are your hourly labor rates?
Hourly rates depend on crew size, timing (weekday or after-hours), location and the type of freight. Call or text (804) 600-4352 with details for a quote.
Is there a minimum for labor jobs?
Yes. Labor jobs have a minimum number of hours per worker, and weekday jobs at our dock fall under the $200 weekday minimum. After-hours and weekend jobs add a $250 fee.
Do you offer driver assist or 2-man teams?
Yes. We provide helpers who ride with your driver or meet the truck on site, as well as two-person delivery teams for heavy or bulky freight.
Do you provide trade show and installation labor?
Yes. Our crews handle trade show load-in and load-out, furniture and fixture installation, and equipment placement.
What equipment do your crews bring?
Pallet jacks, hand trucks, appliance dollies, furniture dollies, moving blankets, straps and stretch wrap. Tell us if the job needs anything special.
Specialized projects
Can you handle oversized freight?
Yes, within the limits of our dock, trucks and equipment. Send dimensions, weights and photos so we can confirm the right equipment and crew.
Do you handle high-value freight?
Yes. High-value freight is photographed, kept in our facility and delivered by experienced crews. We carry $1M in insurance and can discuss additional coverage.
Do you deliver medical equipment?
Yes. We deliver and place non-hazardous medical equipment for hospitals, clinics and practices, following facility receiving rules.
Do you deliver fitness equipment?
Yes. Treadmills, ellipticals, racks and other gym equipment for homes, apartment amenities, hotels and commercial gyms, with assembly available.
Do you do FF&E installs for hotels?
Yes. We receive, store and deliver FF&E for hotel openings and renovations, deliver by floor and room, and remove packaging.
Do you handle store fixture rollouts?
Yes. We stage fixtures at our Richmond warehouse and deliver to stores across Virginia on your rollout schedule, with installation crews available.
Can you run multi-stop distribution?
Yes. We sort freight by stop at our cross dock and run multi-stop routes across Virginia, DC and Maryland, often as pool distribution.
Do you offer assembly?
Yes. Assembly is available for furniture, fixtures, fitness equipment and other items as part of white glove delivery.
Do you move vending machines, arcade games and copiers?
Yes. Vending, arcade and coin-operated machines and office copiers are top-heavy and easy to damage, so we send two-person crews with appliance dollies and liftgate trucks, and photograph them at pickup and delivery.
Can you support trade shows and data center moves?
Yes. We receive and stage trade show freight, deliver to Virginia, DC and Baltimore venues, and provide load-in and load-out labor. For data center and IT equipment, we deliver racks and hardware with careful handling and inside delivery.
Can you store project freight until the site is ready?
Yes. Project freight can be received, inspected and held in pallet storage at our Richmond warehouse until the site is ready, then delivered in phases.
Dock, paperwork & insurance
What does "received at cross dock" mean?
It means your freight has been unloaded at our dock at 2208 Station Rd, N Chesterfield, counted against the BOL and photographed. From that point it is in our care until it is reloaded onto the outbound truck or delivered. We text or email you the received count, photos and any exceptions such as damaged or short pallets.
Can I arrive at 2 a.m.?
Yes — by appointment. Our weekday dock hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and we work 24/7 by appointment. Call or text (804) 600-4352 before you roll so a crew is waiting. Nights, weekends and after-hours carry a $250 fee on top of the per-pallet rate.
What if I missed my delivery appointment?
Bring the load to our dock instead of sitting at the receiver. We unload, photograph and hold it, then redeliver on the next available appointment with our own liftgate box trucks or your carrier. That frees your trailer and driver for the next load.
Do you photograph freight?
Yes. Every job includes photo documentation at unload and at reload or delivery, so the condition of each pallet is on record. Photos are emailed with your paperwork, and we also take photos for rework quotes.
What paperwork do I get?
A signed BOL and proof of delivery (POD) emailed the same day, photos from unload and reload, and notes on wait time and lumper work. A chain-of-custody record is available for high-value, medical or sensitive freight.
Is my freight insured on your dock?
We carry $1,000,000 in insurance. Freight is documented with photos at unload and reload so any pre-existing damage is recorded before we take responsibility. Ask us if you need a certificate of insurance or additional coverage for high-value loads.
Do you transload containers from Richmond Marine Terminal?
Yes. We handle drayage from Richmond Marine Terminal and Port of Virginia containers, then strip 20ft and 40ft containers at our dock, palletize or rework floor-loaded freight and reload it onto 53ft trailers, LTL or our last-mile trucks. Getting the container empty quickly helps you avoid demurrage and per diem.
