Delivery Helpers, Lumpers & Final Mile Labor in Richmond, VA

Delivery helpers, lumpers, driver assist, two-man teams and hourly load/unload labor in Richmond and across Virginia.

delivery helpers Richmond

Sometimes you do not need a truck. You need people. A floor-loaded container has to be unloaded at your warehouse, a driver needs a second set of hands for a heavy residential stop, or a trade show booth has to be unloaded and set before 8 a.m. Final mile labor is exactly that: trained crews who show up, do the physical work safely and leave.

Virginia Crossdock 247 provides delivery helpers, lumper service and hourly labor in Richmond and across Virginia. Our crews are the same people who work our cross-dock floor every day, so they know how to handle freight, build stable pallets, use pallet jacks and dollies, and document damage before it becomes your problem.

You can book labor on its own, or pair it with our trucks, storage and cross-docking so the whole job is handled by one company.

Who it's for

Who uses our final mile labor & delivery helpers

  • Warehouses & DCs

Short on staff for a floor-loaded container or a surge of inbound trailers? Book a crew by the hour instead of hiring temps.

  • Carriers & owner-operators

Your driver is at a receiver that requires driver unload, or the load needs to be restacked. We send lumpers and provide a receipt.

  • Delivery companies

Add a second person for heavy residential or inside deliveries without putting a full-time helper on payroll.

  • Event, retail & installation teams

Trade show booths, store resets, fixture installs and furniture placement that need reliable hands on a fixed schedule.

How it works

Four steps, start to finish

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the job

Call or text (804) 600-4352 with the address, date, freight type, piece count and how many people you think you need. Photos help.

  2. Step 2

    We confirm crew & rate

We confirm crew size, equipment, arrival time and hourly rate with the minimum, in writing.

  3. Step 3

    Crew arrives and works

Our team checks in, reviews the plan with your on-site contact and works safely and quickly. Damage is photographed before it is touched.

  4. Step 4

    Wrap-up & receipt

You get a time sheet, counts and photos. Lumper receipts are issued for drivers to submit.

Pricing

What affects the price

You get the hourly rate, the minimum and any after-hours or weekend fee before the crew is dispatched. No surprise charges on the invoice.

Crew size
One helper for driver assist, two for heavy items, a larger crew for containers and trade shows.
Hours on site
Billed hourly with a per-call minimum. Floor-loaded freight and SKU sorting take longer than palletized freight.
Location & travel
Richmond metro jobs have no travel charge. Jobs farther out include drive time.
Freight type
Heavy, fragile or oversized items may need more people or specialized equipment.
Day and time
Weekday daytime is standard. After-hours and weekend labor carries an added fee.

Lumper service vs. delivery helpers

A lumper unloads or loads freight at a dock, usually for a carrier or receiver, and often sorts and palletizes as part of the job. A delivery helper goes with the freight to the final stop and helps carry, place or install it. We do both, and many customers use both in the same week.

If you are not sure which you need, describe the job and we will recommend the crew size and the right service. Our goal is to send enough people to finish safely and quickly, not to pad the bill.

Safe, insured, documented

Our crews carry the same $1M insurance coverage as our cross-dock operation. They photograph freight before and after handling, which protects you if a shipment arrived damaged. If something is not right, you hear about it while the crew is still on site.

FAQ

Final Mile Labor & Delivery Helpers questions

Can I hire just helpers to unload my trailer?

Yes. We send a crew to your location to unload or load trailers, containers and box trucks by the hour. You do not need to use our trucks or warehouse.

Do you provide lumper service in Richmond?

Yes. We unload floor-loaded and palletized trailers and containers, sort by SKU, build and wrap pallets, and provide a count with photos. Lumper receipts are provided for driver reimbursement.

How is labor priced?

Labor is billed per person, per hour, with a minimum per call-out. The rate depends on crew size, location, the type of freight and whether the work is on a weekday or after hours. We quote it before the crew rolls.

What is driver assist?

Driver assist is a helper who rides with or meets your driver to help with heavy or awkward deliveries, such as stairs, inside placement or multi-piece residential stops.

Do your crews bring equipment?

Yes. Crews bring pallet jacks, hand trucks, furniture dollies, straps, moving blankets and stretch wrap. Forklift work is handled at our dock or with equipment available on site.

Can you supply labor for trade shows and installs?

Yes. We provide crews for trade show move-in and move-out, store fixture installs, FF&E placement and office furniture moves, with or without our trucks.

Freight waiting? We are open right now.
